16-year-old girl who murdered her foster parents is pregnant

VADODARA: The 16-year-old girl, who had allegedly killed her foster parents, is 11-and-half weeks pregnant. Medical reports of the girl that were submitted to the police on Monday night said that the girl was nine weeks pregnant when she was taken into custody for killing her parents. The girl's boyfriend Sapan Purane, who too was allegedly involved in the murders, has already been booked for rape as she is a minor.

"The medical reports say that she is pregnant. We had questioned the girl after she was arrested but she wasn't aware of her pregnancy. The court will now decide on further course of action," said Manjalpur police inspector, N M Ghod. The girl was arrested on October 14 after it came to light that she had killed her parents, Shrihari Vinod, 63, and Sneha, 60, at their residence in Manjalpur in August.

She had mixed sleeping pills in her parents' food and later stabbed them with the help of Sapan. The girl then kept pouring acid on her parents' bodies for over two-and-half months.

Her medical reports state that she is completely fit and can physically handle an abortion. The girl tested normal for all her vitals and was declared medically healthy.

"Technically, a 16-year-old uterus is not fit to carry a baby. Apart from the judicial part of the case, an abortion is probably a good option for her," said the doctor-in-charge of the case at SSG Hospital.

Following the abortion, the foetus would be preserved and tested for a DNA match with the girl's boyfriend to ascertain parentage. The accused duo has admitted that they had a physical relationship. The blood samples of the boyfriend have already been collected on October 22.

Preliminary psychiatric evaluation of the girl declares her to be sane and completely in control of her thoughts and actions. The report does not mention any guilt or remorse for the crime she committed. "She is mentally sound and doesn't seem ashamed for her acts. During the psycho-analysis she tried to justify herself," a doctor from SSG Hospital's department of psychiatry told TOI.

The girl is presently kept in confinement at Shishu Gruh under Nari Sanrakshan Gruh (NSG). Sources in the NSG said though the girl prefers to keep to herself, she interacts with the female constable posted there and employees like any normal teenager. After throwing some tantrums and skipping meals initially, she has now sobered down and become more cooperative.
