Husband, in-laws booked for harassing NRI woman for dowry

ABOHAR: Abohar police have booked the husband and mother-in-law and father-in-law of an NRI woman from Canada for allegedly harassing her for dowry. In her complaint to police, Hunardeep Kaur Sidhu alleged that her husband married her to help his parents immigrate to Canada and after they got their papers, they began to harass her on one pretext or the other.



After going through the complaint, police have booked Hunardeep's husband Harmandeep Singh Grewal, his mother Ranjit Kaur and father Hardip Singh Grewal for allegedly harassing and assaulting her. The complainant stated to police that she was married to Ludhiana resident Harmandeep Grewal in November 2008. She mentioned in her complaint that Harmandeep was living in Canada at the time of their marriage but had not acquired Canadian citizenship.

She alleged that by the virtue of her marriage, Harmandeep's parents moved to Canada and later began to harass her for bringing less dowry, and her husband also supported them. She left her husband's home after being troubled by him and his family and began to live with her parents. Hunardeep said she filed the complaint after their marital discord couldn't be settled amicably.
