Manohar Parrikar resigns, Laxmikant Parsekar frontrunner for Goa CM post Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-laxmikant-parsekar-francis-dsouza-rajendra-arlekar-goa-chief-minister/1/399753.html

The BJP is likely to pick a new chief minister for Goa on Saturday. Manohar Parrikar resigned from the post to take up a ministerial position in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet.
"I hereby tender my resignation as the Chief Minister of Goa Chief and request you to kindly accept the same. I would like to thank you all for the support and co-ordination during my tenure as Chief Minister," Parrikar said in a short letter to the governor.

Swearing-in ceremony for new Goa Chief Minister will be held at 4 pm at Raj Bhawan on Saturday.
Three names in the race, Parsekar ahead

Three names are doing the rounds for the new chief minister's post- health minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza and Speaker Rajendra Arlekar.
However, sources in the BJP say Parsekar is the frontrunner. His name has been favoured by the party leadership, the sources said.
But race for the top post in the coastal state has created a rift in the government with D'Souza saying he would quit if not made the chief minister.
"I am chief ministerial material. I will not be reporting to the junior," he said on Friday.
But who the party legislators finally pick will be revealed around 4 pm.
BJP's national observers Rajeev Pratap Rudy and B.S. Yeddyurappa are in Goa to tide over the process of transition from Parrikar to the new chief minister.
D'Souza's rebellion
D'Souza, who claimed that 12 BJP as well as independent legislators were on the same page with him on the issue, however, was more receptive to the idea of union Minister for Tourism and Culture Shripad Naik being brought to state politics and appointed as chief minister, IANS reported.
Efforts by Parrikar to cajole D'Souza and get him to agree to either Parsekar and Arlekar has not borne fruit, even as the senior BJP leader tried to put a brave face through the embarrassment caused by D'Souza tantrum.
"I have tried my best, now it is up to the party to decide," Parrikar told reporters late Friday after a one-to-one meeting with D'Souza, IANS reported.
On Monday, Parrikar is expected to fly to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh where he will file his nomination papers to book passage to parliament through the Rajya Sabha.
