Woman kills daughter, self after husband learns about her illicit affair in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 30-year-old woman killed her two-year-old daughter and herself by jumping into a well near Perungalathur on the outskirts of Chennai on Wednesday evening. 

Police said Priya Velan took the extreme step when her husband came to know that she had an affair with another man. 

Police said Priya and her daughter, Aishwarya, had been missing from the house since Wednesday afternoon. At around 6 pm, her husband Velan, a car driver, started searching for her. Later, he lodged a complaint with the Peerkankaranai police. 


On Thursday morning, passersby saw the bodies floating in a well and informed the police who rushed to the spot and moved the bodies to the Government General Hospital at Chromepet for postmortem. 

Police said initial investigations revealed that Priya had an affair with another man and Velan had caught her red-handed. He had cautioned her about taking the relationship further. 

Police said Priya ended her and her daughter's life fearing that Velan would harm her. 

The couple had a son, Logesh.
